We are delighted to announce that in addition to the historical and comparative sociology paper sessions at the BSA conference in 2013, the study group will also be holding a plenary event 'Engaging Sociology Globally: Empires and Revolutions'. The speaker will be Michael Mann, Professor of Sociology at UCLA. Building upon the success of the ‘Rethinking the Modern: Empire, Colonialism and Slavery’ conference held in Birmingham in July 2011, we are very excited to be putting on a follow-up conference on 4th and 5th July 2013. To celebrate its inauguration, the new Historical and Comparative Sociology Study Group would like to hold a number of sessions at the next BSA conference. We therefore welcome abstract submissions from all areas of sociology that take a historical and/or comparative perspective.
